Breaking News: Activity suggesting that North Korea is planning a rocket launch (FEB 8 to 25)
Breaking News: Activity suggesting that North Korea is planning a rocket launch has been detected at the ‘Sohae Satellite Launching Space Station’ in Cholsan County, the North Pyongyang Province of North Korea.
North Korea has officially announced that it will use a new Unha-9 launcher, made of three stages and exceeding 40 meters total long, to launch a satellite into orbit between February 8th and 25th. North Korean officials claim that the space rocket is launching an Earth observation satellite into orbit. A satellite somewhat similar to the ones Google uses to map the Earth.
The US plans on using a sophisticated missile defence systems alongside with the South Koreans and Japanese, to possibly shoot down the space rocket and its debris, if it veers off of its planned trajectory.
This launch is seen by many as a possibly dangerous escalation. This rocket launch comes soon after North Korea tested what it claims to be a Hydrogen Bomb.
The danger is that, a rocket that is capable of putting a satellite in space, can also launch a nuclear warhead into any city on Earth. The payload size and weight of satellites and nuclear warheads are similar, and so interchangeable. Let us not forget that North Korea released a video of a nuclear missile landing in New York last year!
North Korea’s previous satellite launches were failures. This rocket is now bigger and better than any used previously by them. The North Koreans pushing hard to develop nuclear technology, and are not shy to show how important their missile delivery system is to those efforts. A model Unha-9 launcher can be found in proud display their new “Science Center”, coincidentally built in the shaped of the nuclear symbol.
Allied forces are now on high alert.
